The l'Espluga de Francolí cooperative winery is a modernist building designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner and built by his son, Pere Domènech i Roura, also an architect, in 1913. Àngel Guimerà nicknamed it «The Wine Cathedral».
The winery, one of Catalonia’s first modernist wineries, was also built to house one of Catalonia’s oldest cooperative societies, the l'Espluga cooperative, founded in 1902 and promoted by Josep Maria Rendé i Ventosa (1877-1925). This building continues with the activity for which it was designed while at the same time being a wine museum.
